Biomedical Engineering Student Worker Position

Location: In person at the Health Sciences Innovation Building, 6th floor

Hours per week: 15 to 20 hours per week during regular business hours with rare evening hours for events

Duration: One academic year, two possible

Compensation: $15 per hour

Supervisor: Brandon Derrow or BME staff

About Biomedical Engineering: 

Students and faculty in this major work to help people by undertaking crucial projects including early cancer detection, creating wearable health monitors, analyzing medical imaging and much more. The Biomedical Engineering department is looking for an exceptional student to join our team in the Health Sciences Innovation Building. This student worker position that will be an excellent experience to build your resume and add real-world projects to your portfolio. Students will be able to expand their skills in marketing, communications, event planning and multi-media skills, including graphic design and video. 

About the role

The intern will work directly with members of the Biomedical Engineering team in a variety of areas, from communications to graphic design and events to organizing the department’s visual boards. Some tasks you may be assisting with include but are not limited to: social media content, web content, multimedia, print and digital marketing, newsletters, and promotional collateral. You will also assist with biomedical engineering event and tour activities, with responsibilities to include assisting with event set-up, operating the event registration table, taking images and photos at events, and assisting with event promotion and metric reporting. There will be general department duties as well, such as checking students in for their advising appts., keeping department bulletin boards up to date and ordering office supplies as needed.

Qualifications and requirements

- Must be a sophomore or junior with at least 1-2 years remaining at UA

· Must exhibit excellent verbal and written communication skills

· Must want to learn and work diligently – this is an engaged position

· Must be able to work independently and in groups

· Must possess an outstanding work ethic and character

· Must be able to thrive in a busy environment with multiple projects

· Must be able to confidently and professionally interact with UArizona faculty, researchers, community VIP’s, and senior staff
