UA Cooperative Extension Family Engagement Program Intern

The Family Engagement Program at UA Cooperative Extension helps families with children aged 0-18 to create a rich learning environment for their children. We have a number of unique programs including a new project to build Developmental Solutions Workshops for families with children with speech delays. The Special Projects & STEM Class Development member will gain key program building experience by assisting with logistics, communication and other programming needs.

Preferred Qualifications: • 2-4 years of experience in health, education, home economics or nutrition programs; OR one year of experience working with young children; OR any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education. Possession of a valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation is required upon employment.

Member Duties : Assist with building new developmental solutions workshops; Liaise with the Speech, language and Hearing department to recruit students to assist with the program; Assist with lesson plans for the Garden Discovery Days STEM activities for children aged 0-5; Assist with lesson plans for Financial Literacy in the early years; If classes are in person, provide STEM and other activities for children, ages 0-18; Prepare activities for children and presentations for adults at outreach events and 21st Century Share Fair; Conduct research on early childhood and parent education programming; If classes are in person, assist with food planning and pick-up for classes; Assist with collecting and managing data assessments. Follow teaching material to present to small and large groups on health and social service topics. Knowledge of community health and social agencies, and programs in Pima County. Must be able to physically interact with children. Part-time position.

Editor on the Arizona Journal of Interdisciplinary Studies (AJIS) Editorial Team

Pay: $625 stipend

Duration: September 16, 2023 - May 10, 2024

Duties & Responsibilities: Each editor on the AJIS Editorial Team is primarily responsible for peer reviewing several article submissions assigned to them throughout the selection process. There will be multiple rounds of review throughout the spring semester and editors will be asked to line edit, provide general comments, and make a recommendation about whether or not each article should move on to the next round of review. In the fall, editors will also be expected to assist the journal’s promotional effort to receive submissions.

Qualifications:

● Undergraduate student at the University of Arizona

● Skilled and enthusiastic writer

● Strong reading comprehension ability

● Strong work ethic and ability to meet deadlines

Hours:

● Hours per week will vary depending on the stage of the publication process.

Guest Relations Representative

Tucson Jewish Museum & Holocaust Center’s Guest Relations Representative is responsible for providing outstanding customer service to all TJMHC visitors, monitoring the facility’s appearance, and supporting other departments at TJMHC.

TJMHC’s Guest Relations Representative will work closely with the Programming & Education Director as well as the Executive Director and as a member of the forward-facing customer service team will have the opportunity to meet and interact with a variety of outside visitors, docents, volunteers and community partners.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs opening and closing operations of TJMHC’s Buildings and Galleries.
- Greets the public, briefly orients visitors to TJMHC, outlining all relevant programs, events, and services (restrooms, water fountains, etc).
- Explains fee/donations and accepts and processes those from visitors either as a cash donation or via the payment system (Zettle).
- Learns content and is able to effectively offer tours to TJMHC visitors.
- Works with docent(s) on duty to coordinate and provide tours for all visitors.
- Assists with gift shop operations, including assisting visitors and completing transactions.
- Responds to emergent and non-emergent facility issues by monitoring the status of the facilities and taking appropriate action to medicate these issues.
- Reports all emergency situations to appropriate personnel.
- Assists with clerical and programmatic duties, which may be performed at the front desk.
- Supports events and programs hosted by TJMHC with set-up/tear-down, guest check-in/service, and other applicable duties.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
- To be successful, the individual must be able to perform each job duty skillfully.
- Possess excellent customer service and relations skills.
- Needs strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Be a team player.
- Have basic computer and point-of-sale experience.
- Exhibit solid organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Will need to be able to stand for long periods of time and lift/carry weights up to 25 lbs.

Scheduling:
- TJMHC’s Guest Relations Representatives must be available to work between 10-25 hours per week.
- Must be willing to work some weekends (appropriate religious accommodations will be made).
- Normal hours are TJMHC’s open hours Wednesday-Sunday from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm as well as occasional after-hours events and functions.

WaterWRLD Intern

WaterWRLD (Water as a platform for Workforce Readiness and Leadership Development) provides University of Arizona students with real-world work experience and community engagement opportunities, all while earning school credit and a paid stipend. Interns work directly with WMG staff, docents, volunteers, and partners on community-based conservation and environmental justice projects. The WaterWRLD internship program seeks talented people of all backgrounds - we value diversity of cultures, races and ethnicities, gender expressions, and abilities

Interns will:
  • Increase understanding of community-based conservation and river restoration opportunities for the Santa Cruz River Watershed, as well as engaging on urban ecology and environmental justice issues.
  • Build relationships with WMG and other local environmental professionals, and work closely with one or more WMG staff mentors. 
  • Develop leadership, community outreach, and environmental education skills and experience.
  • Complete 150 hours of internship work per semester, which averages to about 10 hours per week. 
  • Join weekly experiential education workshops on Friday afternoons in the fall from 3 - 5 p.m., learning alongside other interns and docents.

School Health Resource Website Developer Intern

The University of Arizona’s Asthma & Airway Disease Research Center (A2DRC) is inviting students with experience in website development to apply for the School Health Resource Website Developer Internship which will serve families in Pima County.

The A2DRC is an interdisciplinary Center of Excellence at the University of Arizona College of Health Sciences dedicated to research, clinical care, medical education, and community service in both adult and pediatric pulmonary medicine.

Project Background:

Pima County has 241 non-charter public schools comprising 17 school districts and 100 charter and private schools. An estimated 20% of children live in poverty in Pima County (Pima County Prosperity Initiative, 2023).

Schools often serve as a hub connecting families to health, housing, nutrition, economic assistance, childcare, and other resources. The goal of this project is to work with a team of interns to develop the School Health Resource Website for families. The website will provide a central hub for families to connect with resources in Pima County and will be shared with schools and families in Pima County.

Internship Description

The intern will work with a team of student interns and the site preceptor to lead the creation of the School Health Resource Website.

The School Health Diversity Specialist intern will work with a team of student interns and the site preceptor to lead the compilation of resources in Pima County that address health, housing, nutrition, economic assistance, childcare, and other resources. 

The intern will be responsible for identifying resources specifically serving Pima County’s Native American/American Indian, Spanish-Speaking, and/ or LGBTQ students and families. The intern will be responsible for communicating with organizations to understand the role and unique population the organization serves, the services the organization provides, and steps families should take to access the organization’s services.

Tasks include 1. research organizations serving Pima County’s Native American/American Indian, Spanish-Speaking, and/ or LGBTQ students and families; 2. communicate with organizations to understand requirements for families to access services; and 3. collaborate with the School Health Resource Website Developer Intern to provide Spanish translation support (if applicable).

The School Health Diversity Specialist Intern must demonstrate strong cultural competency, excellent organization, time management, and communication skills (both written and verbal), and professionalism. Spanish speaker and familiarity with resources serving families in Pima County is desired.

Marketing Intern for the Critical Languages Program:

Program Overview: What is the Critical Languages Program? The Critical Languages Program is an academic program that provides foreign language courses for less commonly taught languages. Classes are offered in small group sessions taught by an instructional team with a tutor and an examiner. Current languages offered can be found at https://clp.arizona.edu/ and more can be offered on demand. Position Overview: The Critical Languages Program Marketing Student Intern will play a vital role in promoting our Critical Languages Program (CLP) at the University of Arizona. This program is a gem and one of the best kept secrets of the university. This internship provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in marketing while contributing to the growth and success of our language program. Student earns three credits during the internship for 120 hours.

Key Responsibilities:

 1. Learn with New Mentors: Met regularly with Critical Languages Program Co-Directors and staff to learn and understand CLP program initiatives and goals for marketing strategies. Receive frequent feedback on work and progress.

2. Content Creation: Develop engaging and creative content for various marketing channels, including social media, blog posts, and email campaigns, to raise awareness of the Critical Languages Program.Social Media Management: Manage and curate content for our program's social media accounts. Plan and execute social media campaigns to increase program visibility and engagement. Identify new social media outlets.

3. Market Research: Conduct research on target demographics to identify opportunities for program expansion and improvement. Preference for low-cost, maximum impact strategies.

4. Event Promotion: Assist in organizing and promoting local events related to the CLP, such as language workshops, cultural events, and information sessions.

5. Graphic Design:Create visually appealing promotional materials using graphic design tools or software.

6. Collaboration:Collaborate with program coordinators and faculty to gather information and insights to inform marketing strategies.

7. Planning: Create an action plan for the future marketing initiatives with an annual timeline. Intern must be a self-starter but we will guide and support you every step of the way. Ideally at least two hours per week will be spent working in the CLP office, which is in Babcock Hall, Suite 3312, 1717 E. Speedway Blvd.
