Job Summary

This Communications Intern will assist in day-to-day communications & broadcasting efforts for the team and assist in: media relations and press box operations, press releases, web articles and assisting in nightly lineup sheets using Adobe Indesign. In addition, the candidate will also in assist in broadcast operations and production; and should be proficient in: Adobe Audition, Adobe Premiere and operating a camera for media availabilities.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Assist in the day-to-day interaction between the players and coaches and members of the media at team practices and games.
  • Assist in media, broadcasting, team production interviews at practices, pre-game availability, intermissions during games and post-game.
  • Assist with interviews for the head coach at practices and games.
  • Pull clips and edit video highlight reels, interviews and assist with other content creation.
  • Assist in audio editing and production for: podcasts, radio broadcasts, radio shows, radio commercials, radio promotional features.
  • Assist with player, coach and management media, promotional, community relations, marketing and sponsorship appearances.
  • Assist in the writing, editing and distribution of all team news, such as: news releases, media advisories and various media and fan correspondences.
  • Assist TucsonRoadrunners.com with web posts of game previews, game stories, feature items, other content and maintenance.
  • Serves as writer, content producer of game notes and oversee the editing of various team publications, including: training camp guide, media guide, game program, yearbook and playoff guide.
  • Coordinates and distribute news clips and statistics to coaching staff, media and visiting team.
  • Coordinate game day credentials for media, visiting team and scouts.
  • Manage the team’s press box.
  • Assist with the AHL off-ice officiating crew.
  • Graphic design capabilities will benefit the successful candidate.
  • Track team and player milestones.
  • Manage nightly shot list for the team’s photographers.
  • Related duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Job Qualifications:

  • Being proficient within the Adobe Suite.
  • A passion for a career in: communications, public relations or media relations capacity.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills.
  • Ability to work on deadline.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends.
  • Intern will work anywhere from 15 hours to 29.5 hours per-week.

Job Requirements

  • Ability to work during office hours, extended hours including nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Game day/night attendance at home games (36+) is required.
  • Being fluent in Spanish is beneficial.
  • Internship hours will range from 15 to 29.5 hours-per-week.
  • Must be available from October-June.

We are looking for exceptional students to join our Public Affairs team at the BIO5 Institute (bio5.org). BIO5 is a collaborative scientific research enterprise on the University of Arizona campus that combines ‘5’ unique academic disciplines to promote the discovery of bold solutions to some of today’s most prominent biological challenges.  

This is a professional position that will be an excellent experience to build your resume, add real-world projects to your portfolio, and be closely mentored by staff. You will learn a lot, work hard, and have fun as part of a motivated, creative team. Students play a key role at the BIO5 Institute and have the exciting opportunity to learn about and promote the meaningful impact of BIO5 research to the public.

The Communications & Marketing Student Assistant will work directly with members of the BIO5 Public Affairs team, from communications to graphic design and events. You might work on a variety of projects, including but not limited to, stories, newsletters, social media, web content, multimedia, print and digital marketing, and promotional collateral. You will also help coordinate BIO5 event and tour activities with responsibilities to include working with vendors in catering and event set-up, arranging venues, coordinating registration, assisting with event promotion and metric reporting, and leading tours.

  • One year commitment as University of Arizona student (undergraduate or graduate)
  • Approximately 20-25 hours/week, normally between the hours of 8:00am and 5:00pm, Monday-Friday
  • Flexible schedule, with occasional weekend or evening hours

The Cowboy Up Podcast: Social Media and Marketing Internship Opportunity The Cowboy Up Podcast, located in Tucson, is looking for a student interested in assisting with social media marketing for the purpose of growing the podcast’s online presence and increasing listenership and sponsorships. UA Cooperative Extension Family Engagement Program Intern

The Family Engagement Program at UA Cooperative Extension helps families with children aged 0-18 to create a rich learning environment for their children. We have a number of unique programs including a new project to build Developmental Solutions Workshops for families with children with speech delays. The Special Projects & STEM Class Development member will gain key program building experience by assisting with logistics, communication and other programming needs.

Member Duties : Assist with building new developmental solutions workshops; Liaise with the Speech, language and Hearing department to recruit students to assist with the program; Assist with lesson plans for the Garden Discovery Days STEM activities for children aged 0-5; Assist with lesson plans for Financial Literacy in the early years; If classes are in person, provide STEM and other activities for children, ages 0-18; Prepare activities for children and presentations for adults at outreach events and 21st Century Share Fair; Conduct research on early childhood and parent education programming; If classes are in person, assist with food planning and pick-up for classes; Assist with collecting and managing data assessments. Follow teaching material to present to small and large groups on health and social service topics. Knowledge of community health and social agencies, and programs in Pima County. WaterWRLD Intern

WaterWRLD (Water as a platform for Workforce Readiness and Leadership Development) provides University of Arizona students with real-world work experience and community engagement opportunities, all while earning school credit and a paid stipend. Interns work directly with WMG staff, docents, volunteers, and partners on community-based conservation and environmental justice projects. The WaterWRLD internship program seeks talented people of all backgrounds - we value diversity of cultures, races and ethnicities, gender expressions, and abilities

Interns will:
  • Increase understanding of community-based conservation and river restoration opportunities for the Santa Cruz River Watershed, as well as engaging on urban ecology and environmental justice issues.

  • Complete 150 hours of internship work per semester, which averages to about 10 hours per week.
