Yu Jeong Hwang is a Ph.D. Candidate in Communication at the University of Arizona, specializing in political communication with a focus on gender and media. Her research examines how power, representation, and political discourse are shaped across East Asia and the United States, paying particular attention to the experiences of underrepresented groups, especially women in politics. She is also interested in how digital platforms and communication technologies influence political culture, including the spread of hate speech and misogyny online, and how these dynamics intersect with broader political communication. In addition, she engages in health communication research, analyzing how partisanship and politics shape health-related decisions.
Before joining the University of Arizona, Yu Jeong worked in South Korean politics for ten years as an advisor, building most of her career in the National Assembly. She served various national-level election campaigns, including presidential ones, as a PR officer in charge of social media campaigns.
She holds a master’s degree in international relations from Peking University, China, and a bachelor’s degree in political science and diplomacy from Yonsei University, Korea.
