Dr. Terán is a researcher at the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media

ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT -- Today we have an exciting alumni spotlight for everyone! On Monday, Sept. 12, 2022, our very own Larissa Terán, PhD., attended the 74th Annual Emmy Awards in Los Angeles, California. In July 2022, Dr. Terán began working for the the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media, which received the Primetime Emmy Governors Award. We reached out to Dr. Teran for a quote about the foundation and this is what she had to say: "I feel so honored to work for the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media, and to see our research within the entertainment industry be honored with an Emmy on Monday was such a surreal experience," Terán said via email. "At the institute, we conduct research on media representation of identities from marginalized groups including gender, race, LGBTQIA+, disability, age 50+, and body type. Consequently, we work with various partners from diverse media outlets to implement our research for greater and better representation of these identities in their media content," she added. "It is so rewarding to see our research make a real positive impact for media audiences and I can't wait to see what is in store for us next!"

Dr. Terán completed her doctoral degree in Communication at the University of Arizona in May 2022. Congratulations on your recent accomplishments!
