Communication Stars in New National Rankings

In Fall 2010, the National Research Council released its rankings of research programs in many disciplines, including communication. While the rankings were surrounded by controversy and some ambiguity, they revealed a rather impressive story about our department.  Relative to communication departments, we ranked approximately 10th in the USA (out of 83 programs). Within the UA, we ranked either 2nd or 3rd relative to every other UA department on an overall measure of quality of program, and on a measure specifically assessing research activity we ranked first in the university, outmuscling traditional powerhouses in the medical and physical sciences.
